ABSTRACT

Reid grew up in Jamaica, the third of nine children, and remembers seeking solace in books to keep away from the hectic doings in a household with so many children. From 1961 to 1965, he attended the Gleaner School of Printing in Jamaica, and in 1965 he moved to the United States and was employed in the printing trade with the Theo. Gaus Company until he joined the United States Air Force. It was service in the Air Force that enabled him to complete his secondary schooling. After Gaus closed, he and three other employees bought the company’s printing operations. They later sold it in 1981.
