“The twentieth century has produced a whole new wave of peer pressure, rejection, and lack of self worth for our Black children. There are things occurring now that were unheard of when I was a child. While national attention is being given to the many adverse events involving our Black children, very little attention is given to those who choose to excel in the midst of their environments. This is why I enjoy writing books for our children. In order to encourage children to read, I invite the reader into a world that is colorful and understandable. Most of all, I want it to be a world that they can identify with and learn from.”
