ABSTRACT
Crews was born in Newark, New Jersey, and attended Arts High School, where admission for music and art training is by competitive examination. He also attended Cooper Union in New York City. Crews served two years of military service in Germany, where he married Ann Jones, a fellow student from Cooper Union.
