ABSTRACT
Duncan, an only child, was born and reared and still lives in the city of Memphis, Tennessee. Visiting museums and watching movies are her favorite pastimes. Music, art, and books provide her with the inspiration to write. While in the tenth grade, Duncan discovered playwright Lorraine Hansberry’s memoirs and short stories by author Toni Cade Bambara. She was so taken with Bambara’s characters and Hansberry’s passion for life that she tried her hand at creating tales. Her poetry, essays, and plays won several local and state student contests.
