ABSTRACT

The bottom line in musical activities is the sound. After all the theory and talk, the reward for the musician and audience is the pleasure of hearing a quality sonic result. For this reason musicians on all instruments pay considerable attention to the quality of sound when selecting an instrument and while playing it. The same applies to music making with a computer. No matter how sophisticated the software, or how powerful the hardware, the sound output of a computer system is the front line and final arbiter of sonic quality. Synthesizing a sound is the creation of a sound from basic components or principles.
