ABSTRACT

In the previous chapters, you gained insight into what the mind does: mental activities. You studied the interventions that influence these mental activities. Further, you considered the psychosocial phenomena that relate to our health and mental activities and how they relate to stress. All this information (i.e., mental activities, MindBody interventions, psychosocial phenomena, and stress) needs to be considered in relation to the physical self of a person. This physical self is composed of various body systems. Our focus in this chapter is on the key body systems involved in MindBody medicine. In this chapter, we consider answers to the following questions: What are these systems? How do they function?
