ABSTRACT

Title literacy is a matter of learning how to read titles, both for their content and for their form. This is an important part of educational research literacy, but it is neither very hard nor all that time-consuming. This chapter talks about literacy issues related to titles and openings. Crisis point articles are not uncommon in educational research. There are many difficult and troubling conditions in education that need to be ameliorated. There are crises galore in education. Whether it is overcrowding or underfunding, falling test scores or increasing violence, formal education is beset with problems that can rightfully be labeled as crisis areas. When researchers open an article with a depth point, they are usually signaling that they are going to be looking at something that needs to be examined thoroughly in order to be understood properly.
