ABSTRACT

Once the research questions have been established and the literature has been used to build support for both the question and the research itself, it is time to do the actual research. The four aspects that address the conduct of research are sampling, designs, methods, and procedures. Sampling deals with the selection of participants. Designs deal with the process of turning a research question into a test or other data-gathering process. Methods and procedures describe the ways that these tests or processes are actually conducted. One of the most common strategies for selecting participants, especially in quantitative studies, is to use a random sample. In a random sample, every member of a population has an equal chance to end up being a participant. Quantitative research studies tend to focus on more strategic plans, while the research designs for qualitative studies tend to be more tactical.
