ABSTRACT
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, television viewers watched as an elderly woman, stranded at her flooded home, held a gun to her temple and threatened to pull the trigger if officials did not allow her to evacuate with her only family members, her pets. She had lost her home, her possessions, but wasn't about to lose her family.
