In this chapter I will look in detail at aspects of the manufacture of stone tools in the Clactonian and Acheulean. Although I will briefly introduce the subject of knapping, I do not intend this chapter to be a detailed introduction to stone tool manufacture. I shall only concentrate on those aspects of knapping directly relevant to the Clactonian.
