ABSTRACT

Some dyslexic students have improved their written language considerably as a result of help with grammar. In the past students were taught parsing and clause analysis (learning about the parts of a sentence and how they fi t together); but until recently these had largely gone out of fashion. We believe, however, that their importance has been underestimated. They may, in fact, be coming back into the classroom as a more grammatical approach to language develops through the National Curriculum. Training in grammar may also help dyslexic students to understand the grammar check on the computer.
