ABSTRACT
This chapter briefly reminds readers of the main differences in the funding of independent, non-maintained and maintained special schools in England. I then look at examples of Department for Education and Skills capital funding: devolved formula capital, modernisation funding and funding under the Building Schools for the Future programme. The chapter examines an example of a government initiative that includes special schools: the specialist special school programme.
