ABSTRACT

B was a middle-aged woman in treatment for depression. She would usually spend her sessions talking about her mother and her ambivalent feelings toward her mother. B's parents divorced when B was twelve. When B was twenty, her father died of a heart attack. B felt her mother was always coming to B to rescue her, reassure her, and parent her. B told me, ``I feel like I am the mother and she is the kid. That is not right!''
