ABSTRACT
Melanie Klein conceptualized the paranoid-schizoid position as an intrapsychic experience that, under normal circumstances, evolves into the depressive position. These developmental shifts are viewed as a move from persecutory anxieties to depressive, oedipal guilt within a whole-self±wholeobject matrix.
