ABSTRACT

In 1990 the reputation of nuclear power in Britain was at an all time low. The existing nuclear power stations had been publicly exposed as uneconomic. The government had given every indication that it wanted no more after Sizewell B was completed. In the two companies hurriedly created after the failed privatisation, the employees were demoralised. As the rest of the electricity industry entered the private sector world of commercial freedom and competition, Scottish Nuclear and Nuclear Electric faced an uncertain future.
