ABSTRACT
Children can learn everywhere. Making the most of learning is crucial for those whose formal education has been jeopardised by the overwhelming adversities and uncertainties they have faced. A great deal will have already happened in these children's lives that has brought them to public notice and upset a smooth developmental progression into their ®rst experience of school, and beyond.
