ABSTRACT

In the last chapter you were provided with an overview of the key concepts and issues associated with the notion of statistical significance. If your head is still spinning a little after reading through all of this then don’t worry. The purpose of this chapter is to bring the discussion right down to a very practical level. Through the use of a range of examples we will see how we actually go about conducting statistical tests using real-world educational data. Not only will this give you a much better understanding of how all of the concepts and issues covered in the last chapter are applied in practice, but you will also be taught the practical skills necessary to choose the right statistical test and then how to run each of these using SPSS. Moreover, you will be shown how to interpret the output that is produced as well as how, precisely, you should report these findings.
