ABSTRACT

In Chapter 4 we began to (re-)tell some of the stories of policy-makers. Here we explore the stories of educational managers in relation to policies and practices of lifelong learning and their role in reinforcing or challenging these. For example, their positioning within competing discourses such as ‘quality’ and ‘widening participation’ might pose contradictions for how they see themselves as facilitators of or participants in lifelong learning. The stories that we tell will include managers working within further and higher education, as well as those managing projects such as AimHigher, working with refugees and asylum seekers and community projects.
