ABSTRACT

Just Dying to Do It? All right, I 've tried to lay out as many cautions and precautions that I could think of. I think we've gone as far as we can go intellectually, emo tionally, and philosophically, so . . . let's die a little. I 'll tell you right now, there won't be any make-up tips or voice lessons in this next section. It's all about where to do things, not what to do. There's no shopping advice, no sample letters to your boss explaining how you might be changing. There's not even a suggestion of exactly what the very next step in your gender journey might be. Those kinds of details are up to you. Maybe you want to shift the kind of man or woman you already are. Maybe what you really want to do is become more of a man than you already are, or more of a woman. Perhaps you simply want to polish your already fabulous gendered performance. Maybe you want to explore another gender entire ly. Some gendered identity you've read about, or saw walking down the street, some character you saw in a movie or on TV or read about in a book, some movie star you always wanted to be like .. Maybe you want to revisit a gendered identity you only dipped a toe into years ago. Maybe you want to explore several genders simultaneously. It's all up to you. You've got a wide spectrum of genders and other gendered identities to play with. I'm going to let you know where some nice places might be to play with them.
