ABSTRACT

In the 1984 primaries, Democratic aspirants for the White House included former Vice President Walter Mondale, Senator John Glenn of Ohio, Senator Gary Hart of Colorado, and civil rights leader Jesse]ackson. At the Democratic National Convention in San Francisco, Mondale emerged as the nominee and made history by picking the first woman ever to be nominated as the vice presidential candidate of a major party, Representative Geraldine Ferraro of New York.
