ABSTRACT

It was another cold, rainy Berlin day in March, but there was much action inside the buildings and shops of Kreuzberg—the “Turkish Berlin,” or the “little Istanbul” as the inhabitants would like to think of it. Members of ADA on Reichenbergerstrasse, a left-leaning group of Turkish youngsters, were particularly busy, getting ready for an important meeting. A representative of the Freedom and Democracy Party (ÖDP) was going to discuss the political situation in Turkey and ÖDP’s prospects in the upcoming general elections. The representative had arrived the day before on invitation by ÖDP sympathizers—ADA being one of them.
