ABSTRACT

The Essen branch of the Federation of Turkish Associations of Northern-Rhine Westphalia announces that they are donating 55 thousand DM to the Foundation for the Strengthening of the Turkish Army. 1 In Cologne, a Turkish migrant declares himself caliph and the head of an Islamic state in exile, denouncing the existence of the Turkish state and declaring both Germany and Turkey Dar-ül Harb (un-Islamized foreign soil subject to jihad). 2 Again in Cologne, Alevi activists raise money for the victims of Sunni attacks in Turkey and call on the Turkish government to liberalize their constitution. In Frankfurt, the ultranationalists work hard to raise money for their party in Turkey to win elections and devise strategies to counteract Kurdish attacks in Europe against the Turkish state.
