The aim of this chapter is to demonstrate that attention to the respective discursive properties of theoretical argument and mythopoeic narrative is a prerequisite for analysis of the pro­ duction and reproduction of ideology. The starting-point is a dis­ cussion of the problems of definition raised by a representative sample of the theoretical literature.
