ABSTRACT

A living room appears on the screen. Soon there is motion: Space begins to slide toward the left, pushing objects on the left off the screen while new objects appear on the right. Objects that are nearby are moving more rapidly than those in the near background. Simultaneously, space that is seen through a window in the far background moves slowly in the opposite direction toward the right. Then the motion on the screen changes direction: Objects in the center of view suddenly begin to enlarge symmetrically at different speeds, moving faster and contracting lengthwise as they draw nearer but becoming increasingly distinct along diagonals emanating from a central point while, at the same time, objects away from the center of view enlarge in asymmetrical patterns, until each abruptly vanishes with a final blur and bending into the immateriality of extreme closeness at the edges of the screen. What is occurring?
