But there is a deeper, even spiritual, dimension to the Generalization
skill that should not be overlooked. There comes a point in a person’s use
of the RE skills where they no longer represent an artificial set of skills to
which a person submits him-or herself; instead, they gradually become
second nature as a person consolidates and integrates their use more fully
into daily life. In this sense, the RE model holds out the prospect of nothing less than a spiritual transformation of the self to the extent that the RE
skills become so fully integrated that they become a natural part of who a
person is and how that person relates to other people. Indeed, at its deepest level, the RE model reflects and embodies an attitude and commitment
toward living one’s life as a compassionate human being, and the RE skills
become part of one’s philosophy of life.
