ABSTRACT

In the two years that Jake and Mark had been together, they always practiced safer sex. They were healthy, HIV-positive white men who came to see me for therapy to talk about their plans to move in together. They were both in their fifties and financially successful, and each had lost a long-term partner to AIDS. From the first session, I was impressed by how loving and tender they were with each other. They had a maturity that I do not always see in clients; they were able to listen deeply and absorb what the other was saying before responding.
