ABSTRACT

Ch 21 Research Evidence for Child Parent Relationship Therapy 457

CHAPTER 21

With a total of 33 studies involving over 800 subjects, Child Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) is one of the more well-researched treatment protocols in the field of child psychotherapy. The evidence for the efficacy of this treatment methodology is impressive, supporting its usefulness with a variety of presenting issues and with diverse populations. A summary of the research findings from all 33 studies is included in this chapter, preceded by an overview of the pioneering research efforts of Bernard and Louise Guerney. But first, we have included a brief summary of the meta-analytic research support for play therapy and filial therapy as a context for interpreting the research findings on the 10-session Child Parent Relationship Therapy model.
