ABSTRACT

I am proposing that clinicians can use emotion rituals to change emotional patterns, to create new neurological paths, and to employ a broader range of neurochemicals, among other things. For this to be possible, the brain must be able to make use of this disciplined behavior. Several questions about how emotions work in the brain must be answered: Do we feel before we think? Do emotions precede awareness? How does the brain transmit emotional signals? Do our neurochemicals change when our emotions change? Can emotion work with reason? How is the brain designed to enable us to feel and adapt? Why does reason seem to have little effect on emotion?
