ABSTRACT

A little time ago I noticed an advertisement in The Economist magazine for a senior post at the heart of the United Kingdom government: director of the Strategy Unit in the Cabinet Office. The specific post in question may be immaterial (though it suggests a central shaping role), but what really caught my eye was the rubric at the end:

The Cabinet Office is committed to providing equal opportunities for all, irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, marital status, religion, sexuality, transgender and working patterns.
