ABSTRACT

The previous chapter formed the general framework needed to locate and focus this chapter on the emergence, development and consolidation of the political and social movements of the inhabitants of the SNSM: the Kogui, Arhuaco, Wiwa, and Kankuamo 1 peoples. Their cultural and environmental proposals have reached longstanding national and transnational political arenas where they have created a dialogue with both governmental institutions and NGOs. This dynamic interaction of culture, environment, organizational processes and politics has also led to the formation of new public arenas in which the indigenous peoples of the SNSM have expressed their political values and goals.
