ABSTRACT
The aim of this chapter is to discuss the clause structure of Hindi. In addition to a discussion of the clause structure, this chapter will focus a great deal on the various characteristics of Hindi sentences. A detailed study of Hindi clause structure is important to the study of the syntax of negation and the licensing of negative polarity items in Hindi. This study helps to determine the location of negation in Hindi sentences and in the clause structure of Hindi. The location of negation clarifies and adds to the discussion of the licensing of polarity items.
