ABSTRACT
In the previous chapter, I proposed an analysis for the licensing of NPIs that dispenses with the LF raising of Neg and dispenses with any covert syntactic operations (specifically reconstruction). I suggest rather that NPIs are licensed overtly prior to scrambling. I also presented a detailed discussion of the distribution of NPIs and showed that two types of NPIs can be clearly demarcated in terms of their syntactic behavior with reference to their licensors.
