ABSTRACT
Just as the medieval records for the estates are vast, so too were the estates. The bishopric estate stretched across the entire county. Although smaller, the Priory estate was still sizeable. Both estates possessed extensive lands in the areas of the county most suited to arable agriculture, in addition to scattered settlements that exploited fully the plentiful pasture.
