ABSTRACT

The ground was being prepared for the “State of Israel Bonds” campaign at the end of 1950 and, by early 1951, the infrastructure was in place. As in previous fundraising campaigns in the American Jewish community, it was clear that prominent personalities must be sent to touch their hearts and prompt them to donate to the campaign. To this end, Minister of Finance Eliezer Kaplan presented the government with a program of visits by senior ministers, with Ben-Gurion’s visit to the United States in pride of place.1
