ABSTRACT
The willingness of Palestinians in the occupied territories to rebel, analyzed in the preceding chapter, sets the preliminary cognitive and affective preconditions for resistive action. The willingness to act contentiously is a necessary yet insufficient process for the development of a collective actor: a Palestinian national-social movement. It is essential, then, to analyze the process through which the Palestinians’ readiness to act was molded: the how question of the Intifada.
