ABSTRACT

We are left with three tasks to accomplish. Our first task is to summarize the basic argument of the book and to present the conclusions. The second task involves a discussion of our case study in terms of theories of collective action, suggesting several contributions our study makes to the field. Our third task will be to suggest several observations concerning the future of the Palestinian–Israeli conflict and prospects for its resolution. This third task may seem unrealistic as clashes and mutual infliction of damage are still an ongoing matter, and in spite of the recent Israeli pullout from the Gaza Strip no foreseeable systematic and genuine resolution to the conflict is in sight. The postscript which follows this final chapter supplies a provisional analysis of the “new” or “second” Intifada which began in 2000 and demonstrates the validity of, and need for in heeding the observations offered.
