ABSTRACT

Mr Mohajerani resigned as Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance early in 2001, without any official explanation being given. He was appointed by President Khatami as the head of a recently established centre that was meant to pursue the President’s call for dialogue among civilizations. The appointment led to speculation that Mr Mohajerani would repeat the experience of Khatami who had become President after heading Iran’s National Library, following his resignation as Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance in 1992. However, Mr Mohajerani resigned from the International Centre for Dialogue Among Civilizations in July 2003 amid press reports of problems in his personal life, because of which he was later imprisoned briefly.1
