This is another famous puzzle about identity and material constitution. It was discussed by the great seventeenth century political philosopher Thomas Hobbes (1588-1679) in his De Corpore (Part 2, Chapter 11, section 7). The history of Theseus’ ship was originally recounted by Plutarch (c. 46-c. 120).
