ABSTRACT

Good teaching involves things like projects, self-directed laboratory work, individual tasks, informal small group sessions, participation through tutorials-with students not just sitting at the desk, but actually coming out to the board. Sometimes the most effective learning takes place when the students come to speak to you about an unrelated issue and then, as you get talking, they say, ‘Oh by the way, I want to know about this’. Good teaching can mean a whole range of things. I don’t think you can do it using any one vehicle. I think you’re more likely to capture the essence of good teaching with diversity.
