ABSTRACT
Words attributed to philosophers in quotation marks or set as extracts are direct
quotations from published works, albeit, as in the Descartes ‘lectures’, they may
have been put in the context of the ‘active voice’. Similarly, the use of italics and
even capitalisation is not usually as in the original, but anywhere I felt like.
