ABSTRACT

The internationalization of the Swedish armed forces is better characterized by the word ‘evolution’ than revolution. The process has been slow and although Sweden spends twice as much on defence as Denmark and Finland, the Swedish armed forces are not capable of deploying and sustaining more personnel abroad.2 Progress with respect to meeting our success conditions has nevertheless been continuous since the Swedish involvement in the Balkans began in 1992, and Sweden now meets ten of our eleven requirements for success.
