ABSTRACT

There are hundreds of references in the Koran to the question of belief, particularly in contradistinction to its opposite number, unbelief. Belief, it is asserted, is the result of a choice, and one which must be made in the full light of knowledge and awareness: it must be arrived at through investigation, not emulation. While all men are born with the capacity to believe, and are surrounded by myriad signs and indications which confirm the necessity of belief, some choose instead to deny, opting for the inevitable ignominy that follows on from a life lived in unbelief.
