Liszt and the wandering years

For many people, the name of Ferencz or Franz Liszt conjures up a picture of a wizened and somewhat forbidding abbé dressed in sober clerical garb. This is of course largely influenced by the photographed portraits of the composer in his later years, and a far cry from the young Liszt who toured Britain during the first half of the nineteenth century.
