ABSTRACT

While the first volume of this work concentrated on philosophical and psychological perspectives on human learning, its third chapter looked specifically at the sociological implications of learning, examining culture, socialisation, indoctrination, brainwashing, time and space. It is necessary to revisit that chapter briefly here in order to continue to lay the foundations for future analysis. Consequently, we will take two sections from that chapter as the opening section of this chapter; thereafter, the focus will be on learning and agency and structure and, finally, relate learning to the major sociological theories.
