ABSTRACT

You need to read your school’s policy for literacy which should set out the overall vision for literacy, the objectives and reasons for teaching literacy, and outline the way literacy will be taught throughout the school. It will tie in with the National Curriculum, which sets out Programmes of Study of English for each of the Key Stages under the headings of speaking and listening (En1), reading (En2) and writing (En3). Attainment Targets are also given which set out what pupils must be able to do to reach each National Curriculum level. If you are working in a primary school, you need to show you are aware of the range of publications and policies relating to the National Literacy Strategy (NLS).
