ABSTRACT

School mathematics policies will differ in their details, but all primary school policies should make reference to the National Numeracy Strategy (NNS), stating how it will be implemented throughout the school. You need to be familiar with both your school’s policy and with the basics of the NNS. For secondary schools, the government has introduced the Framework for Teaching Mathematics in Years 7, 8 and 9 as part of the Key Stage 3 National Strategy. The aim of the framework is to help secondary schools build on and follow on from the NNS and to improve transition from primary to secondary schools. If you are supporting mathematics in Key Stage 3, you will need to be familiar with this framework.
