ABSTRACT
Every school will have policies. School policies are not written in isolation but relate to local authority and national or government guidelines. The government is constantly rewriting old laws, drafting new laws, issuing guidance and disseminating, that is, giving examples of good practice. Some documents that are of interest to TAs are:
• The Children Act 2004 • Every Child Matters 2004 • Disability Discrimination Act 2005
See Chapters 12 and 13 for brief summaries of these documents and useful references. In terms of behaviour management the school will have a policy on behaviour,
bullying, child protection and equal opportunities. As a TA it is your role to get a copy of these policies and read them as they provide a wealth of information.
