ABSTRACT

In order to most effectively support pupils settle into new situations, you need to know quite a lot, but you also need to use your common sense.

Different strategies to use for helping pupils adjust to a new setting

Most children adjust readily to new settings, but there are particular times when more support may be needed. The most obvious is starting at a new school – either in Reception or at times of transition. However, an individual pupil joining an existing class part way through a year or a pupil rejoining a class after prolonged absence, perhaps through illness, may need support as well.
