ABSTRACT
Immunity enables us to resist many potential pathogens, but most ICU patients are immunocompromised. This chapter describes normal immunity, illustrating dysfunction through Human Immunosuppressive Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
