ABSTRACT
Most deliveries are ‘normal’, ICU admission rarely being needed, although incidence varies between sections. Obstetric patients can be among the sickest patients in ICU. This, together with limited literature in ICU texts and journals, and few ICU staff being qualified midwives, can provoke special anxieties among staff.
